Stolje\u0107ima su se za vu\u010du koristile \u017eivotinje poput konja, ali su lo\u0161e ceste ote\u017eavale transport. Zbog toga su na neke ceste po\u010deli postavljati prvo drvene daske, a potom i metalne tra\u010dnice po kojima su se kola lak\u0161e kretala. James Watt je kasnije unapredio ovaj stroj, a Richard Trevithick je napravio <strong>prvi parni stroj za vozila<\/strong>. Rudnici su nastavili ulagati u razvoj parnih lokomotiva, iako su one u po\u010detku bile te\u0161ke, opasne i neefikasne. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prva putni\u010dka vo\u017enja<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Godine 1825. George Stephenson je izgradio lokomotivu &#8220;Locomotion No. 1&#8221; i 27. rujna iste godine izveo <strong>prvu putni\u010dku vo\u017enju<\/strong>. Lokomotiva je vukla 36 vagona sa ugljenom, bra\u0161nom, radnicima i putnicima, me\u0111u kojima je bio i sam Stephenson. Parne lokomotive postajale su sve br\u017ee i pouzdanije.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rainhillska utrka<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Godine 1829. u Engleskoj je organizirana utrka lokomotiva kako bi se odabrao najbolji model za \u017eeljezni\u010dku prugu izme\u0111u Liverpoola i Manchestera. Lokomotiva &#8220;<strong>Rocket<\/strong>&#8221; je pobijedila, jer je ispunila sve zahtjeve \u2013 mogla je da povu\u0107i teret brzinom od 20 km\/h i dosti\u0107i 48 km\/h bez tereta.
